Our Ultrasound Imaging Services
Utilize a complete array of ultrasound imaging services, including cardiac, general, and vascular imaging with state-of-the-art equipment from leading ultrasound manufacturers. These services can be provided in a standard exam room. Exams can be offered one or more days per week, bi-weekly, or on a monthly basis.
Cardiac
- 2D and 3D Echo (Adult and Pediatric)
Vascular and General
- Complete Carotid Imaging
- Upper and lower Venous and Arterial Imaging
- Segmental Pressures
- General (Thyroid, Renal, etc)
- Complete Abdominal Imaging
Nerve Conduction Studies
Nerve conduction studies are a great addition to current in-office ancillaries. These diagnostic studies are key in identifying causes of symptoms such as numbness, tingling, and continuous pain in extremities as well as other areas. Studies are easily performed in a standard exam room, and can be provided one or more days per week, as well as biweekly and monthly. Half-day scheduling options are also available. MedWorks provides the expertise and equipment to include:
- Cadwell Sierra Wave System
- Technical Personnel
- All Associated Paperwork and Information
Some examples of diseases or conditions that may be evaluated with NCV include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Carpal Tunnel Syndrome - A condition in which the median nerve, which runs from the forearm into the hand, becomes pressed or squeezed at the wrist by enlarged tendons or ligaments. This results in pain and numbness in the fingers.
Guillain-Barré Syndrome - A condition in which the body's immune system attacks part of the peripheral nervous system. The first symptoms may include weakness or tingling sensations in the legs.
- Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease - A hereditary neurological condition that affects both the motor and sensory nerves. One characteristic is weakness of the foot and lower leg muscles.
- Herniated Disc Disease
- Chronic Inflammatory Polyneuropathy and Neuropathy - Conditions resulting from diabetes or alcoholism
- Sciatic Nerve Problems
- Pinched Nerves
- Peripheral Nerve Injury
Medworks has cultivated relationships with neurologists to provide professional interpretations of the studies with twenty-four hour turnaround times. This ensures a “Total Quality” service which will meet and exceed your practice expectations.
Videonystagmography (VNG) Testing
(Also known as Dizzy or Balance Testing)
MedWorks is excited to offer Videonystagmography (VNG) technologies for testing inner ear and central motor functions, and, just as with our other diagnostic offerings, provide VNG testing in-office. VNG testing is considered the new standard for testing inner ear functions over Electronystagmography (ENG) because:
- VNG measures the movements of the eyes directly through infrared cameras, instead of measuring the mastoid muscles around the eyes with electrodes.
- VNG testing is more accurate, consistent, and comfortable for the patient. By having the patient more comfortable and relaxed, consistent and accurate test results are more easily achieved. VNG testing is used to determine if a vestibular (inner ear) disease may be causing a balance or dizziness problem, and is one of the only tests available today that can decipher between unilateral and bilateral vestibular loss. VNG testing is designed to document a patient’s ability to follow visual objects with their eyes and how well the eyes respond to information from the vestibular system.
This test also addresses the functionality of each ear and if a vestibular deficit may be the cause of a dizziness or balance problem. To monitor the movements of the eyes, infrared goggles are placed around the eyes to record eye movements during testing. VNG testing is non-invasive and the actual testing takes approximately 45 minutes.
VNG Testing: There are 4 main parts to the VNG test:
- Occular Mobility: The patient will be asked to follow objects with their eyes that jump from place to place, stand still, or move smoothly. The technician will be looking for any slowness or inaccuracies in the ability to follow visual targets.
- Optokinetic Nystagmus: A large, continuously moving visual image is used to see if the patient’s eyes can appropriately track the movements. Like the occular mobility tests, the technician will be looking for any slowness or inaccuracies in the ability to follow visual targets.
- Positional Nystagmus: The technician will move the patient’s head and body into various positions to make sure that there are no inappropriate eye movements (nystagmus), when the head is in different positions. This test checks the inner ear system and the condition of the endolymph fluid in the semi-circular canals, verifying that small calcium carbonate particles called canaliths or otoconia are not suspended in the fluid and causing a disturbance to the flow of the fluid.
- Caloric Testing: The technician will stimulate both of the patient’s inner ears (one at a time) with warm and then cold air. Eye movements are monitored using goggles, making sure that both ears can sense this stimulation. Caloric testing confirms that the vestibular system for each ear is working and responding to stimulation. This test is the only test available that can decipher between a unilateral and bilateral loss.
Treatments
About 65%-85% of patients with abnormal tests are recommended for the Epley Maneuver (also known as Canalith Repositioning Procedure). This simple maneuver is performed by the doctor during an office visit.
